FEILDING SALE.

ERRATIC DEMAND. (Special to “Standard.”) FEILDING, March 2. Due, perhaps, to the fact that quality over the whole yarding was very uneven, there was a slackening in the demand for all lines of sheep at yesterday’s stock sale at Fcilding. The high prices of the previous week wero in no way approached and many lines were passed, although attractive pens sold fairly easily. Cattle wore yarded in large numbers and except in the case of fats, which also slumped in value, late rates were maintained. The following were the prices over the whole sale: — Fat Sheep.—Wethers, 25s 6d to 275; fat ewes, 18s 9d, 20s 6d, 20s 9d, 21s 6d to 25s 6d; shorn lambs, 19s 6d, 22s 9d, 23s 3d, 24s 6d; shorn two-tooths, 22s 6d; woolly, twotooths, . 25s 9d. There, was very keen competition for the better class ot ewes but lambs were dull of sale at lower prices than those previously ruling. Quotations: Fat lambs, 21s 6d to 22s 9d; fat ewes, 20s 6d 20s 8d; small b.f. .lambs, 12s to 14s; b.f. shorn lambs, 16s, 17s 3d, 17s 8d to 18s Id; b.f. woolly lambs, 17s 4d, 17s 9d to 20s 3d; aged ewes, 12s to 14s 6d; 5-yr ewes, 21s, 21s 3d to 22s 3d; 4 and 5-yr ewes, 25s 2d; small 2 and 4-th ewes, 295; 2-th ewos, 32s 4d, 32s lOd to 39s 6d; small weaner heifers, £2 15s; forward cows, £5 12s 6d; fat cows, £7 7s 6d to £9 10s.

WESTFIELD MARKET. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Feb. 27. At Westfield beef was yarded in average numbers. The market was steady and prices firmed on last week’s quotations. Prime heavy ox, £l4 12s 6d to £l4 17s 6d; medium prime ox, £l3 to £l4 os; lighter sorts, £lO 15s to £lO 17s 6d Cow and heifer beef also came forward in average numbers and sold freely at . prices slightly better than last week, ' Prime cow and heifer, £9 2s 6d to £lO 15s;. extra choice ox sold to 38s per 1001 b.; choice and prime, £1 15s to £1 175.; just killable. £1 12s to £1 14s; prime young cow and heifer beef, 335; just killable, £1 7s to £1 10s.

Sheep.—An average yarding of fat sheep was offered, tho bulk of the yarding comprising light and unfinished sheep. Competition was fair and prices remained on a par with last week. Prime heavy wethers, £1 12s 6d to £1 14s 6d; medium wethers, £1 10s 3d to £1 11s 9d.

Lambs. —An average yarding of fat lambs came forward and sold at lato rates. Heavy prime, 23s to 245; medium, 20s to 21s.

Calves were penned in smaller numbers and sold under brisk competition, good quality calves improving on last week’s sale. Heavy vealers, £4 to £5 8s; medium £3 to £3 18s; light, £2 2s to £2 16s; rough, 15s to £1 15s; small, 18s to £1 18s.

Pigs sold under good competition, values being very firm for baconers, porkers improving in price. Choppers, £2 10s; heavy baconers, £3 12s to £3 17s; heavy porkers, £2 6s to £2 10s; modium baconers, £3 to £3 10s; medium porkers, £2 2s to £2 ss; light baconers, £2 12s to £2 18s; light porkers, £1 16s to £2.

SALE AT BURNSIDE. FAT CATTLE PRICES FIRM. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Feb. 27. Fat cattle remained firm at the Burnside stock sales to-day, but sheep were not so fortunate. Ewes suffered a marked slump and wethers were in slow demand at the outset, though the sale brightened a bit later. Lamb values fell slightly, and store cattle met with a fair inquiry. The fat cattle yarding comprised about 165 head of very average quality. There was a largo proportion of cows, with only a sprinkling of prime bullocks and prime heifers. Last week’s prices wore well maintained, and there was a slight improvement for choice beef, of which there was not much forward. Thore were over 2600 fat sheep, and the quality was fairly good, the percentage of ewes being large. Heavy wethers sold at from 3s to 4s less than last week at the outset, but the demand firmed up a bit towards the end of tho sale. Prime sorts were finally about Is below par and ordinary butchers’ 6tuff wore about 2s a head cheaper. All classes of ewes were much cheaper, with the result that passings were not uncommon. Best wethers mado up to 40s, and prime from 28s to 38s. The best ewes could not- command nioro than about 365. Good butchers’ wether mutton, up to about 561 b, made up to 6£d per lb, but tho general run of stuff brought from 5d to 53d per pound. There were over 500 lambs penned, and the quality was from medium to prime. Values were about Is per head lower than last week, light primes mnking up to 9Jd per lb, and heavier sorts bringing in the vicinity of 83d. Be6t heavies mado 336, anxl light primes 30s. A yarding of 280 store cattle was made up of cows, heifers, and some good lines of young steers of fair to good quality. There was a very fair sale. Three-year-old steers made up to £9 15s, and two and a half year old up to £B. Cows were practically unchanged, and mixed yearlings met with only an indifferent demand. STOCK MARKET. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having a very good entry of sheep and a moderate yarding of cattle at their Mangaweka sale on Thursday. Therew as quite afair demand all through and the majority of the stock changed hands. Quotations: —Cull lambs 7s 3d, 8s Id, 9s, 9s 6d, 10s 4d, small b.f. lambs 13s Id, 13s 3d, wether lambs 15s to 16s 3d, cull ewes 7s 3d, Bs, 9s, 103 to 12s lOd, m.a. ewes 16s 6d to 19s 4d, good 4 and 5-ycar ewes 28s 6d, 6-th to 4-year ewes 29s 2d, small 2-th ewes 26s 3d, 2-th ewes 35s 4d, light fat cows £5 10s, fat cows £7 to £7 10s, small P.A. weaners 335, medium weaners £2 10s to £3, 18-mos steers £5, 15-mos mixed P.A. cattle £4 19s, mixed P.A. weaners £4. v
