RONGOTEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, Feb. 28. On Wednesday afternoon tho Rongotea Women’s Institute held a picnic at the Oroua P«yer at Ivopane bridge when there was a good attendance and a very pleasant time wtas enjoyed. Wednesday found a good number of tho members of 1.0.0. F. Lodge Rongotea and their families at Tangimoana whero their annual picnic was held. Games, running c\cnts, competitions and swimming constituted tho programme, and much enjoyment was derived therefrom. Excellent weather conditions prevailed and all present could | not do other than appreciate the manner in which tho programme was,, arranged. A number of the children worn conveyed to Tangimoana by Mr Ciochctto’s lorry. Mrs D. Young, senior, is at present spending a holiday with her son, Mr S. R. Young, Ivaiinatarau. Seven first prizes, four at Fcilding shows and three at Palmerston North shows, is the record of a well-known show pony, Mickey, owned by Miss Graco Young, daughter, of Mr S. R. Young, of Kaimatarau. Wherever this pony ( which is a handsome animal, has been exhibited it has invariably secured first prize awards. It is well-known in Palmerston North, Fcilding and various other centres, and its non-appearance at the Marton Show on Wednesday would no doubt bo noticed by its many admirers. Tho pony was entered for tho show but, owing to injuries received in tho truck en route to Marton, it was taken off tho train at Makino station. The pony is only four years old and shows outstanding form, and it is calculated that its appearance at Marton would no doubt have merited a first prizo award. Tho animal was bred by Mr P. Huntor, of Waipukurau, and is valued at 50 guineas by tho owner, Miss Graco Young. A meeting of the Dairy Farmers’ Union, Rongotea branch, is to bo held in the Town Board on Friday evening and it is hoped that members and intending members will endeavour to bo present as it is desired that the interest in tho union bo revived. On Saturday tho school picnic is to bo held on tho school grounds and tho programme of events and full arrangements have been completed. The committee appreciates donations towards tho picnio by vi ay of money or prizes. The Rongotea and District Social Club held another successful function on Thursday evening, when there was a very good attendance of members and visitors present. The euehro was keenly contested and the following players emerged as winners: Men: Mr W. J. Amies; ladies, Miss Ivy Bayliss. Consolation awards went to Miss V. McCall and Mr R. Richards. After the euchre 6upper was served and then the usual card games were resumed and continued until a late hour.
