CONDITIONS IN BRITAIN. STRIFE AND DISCONTENT. /rj v Telegraph—Special to Standard.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 3. “Anyone who says that England is prosperous is not telling the truth” stated Mr C. H. Archer, who returned from a nine months’ business trip to England by the Niagara He stated that things were very bad at Homo and the number of men out of work saddened the visitor. Anyone who travelled through the Midlands could not help being very bitterly depressed with what is to be seen. He added: Everywhere * you go there are men out of work, and at present they have no prospect of securing work. Any feeling of optimism had no grounds for existence in his opinion. There was strife and discontent, and he was very pleased indeed to return to the Dominion, although he was a native of Discussing the United States, Mr Archer said that there were evidences on all sides of prosperity.
