CONVENT CARDEN PARTY.
A WORTHY CAUSE. Tho excellent work carried out by tho Convent of Mercy in Palmerston North is recognised by all classes of tho community no matter what their denominational beliefs may bo. At all times of tho day ono finds tho good Sisters engaged on some errand of charity and mercy, and no appeal is made to them in vain. The wherewithal to carry on their good work, however, does not come out of thin air, and as thoy have no incomes of their own they must depend upon tho charity of others to finance them. Fortunately, some good people in tho city and its environs do not need to bo asked for financial assistance, but thero aro times when it is necessary to go to tho publio for funds, and this time has arisen. It is not often that an appeal is mado, but when it is so tho public aro not found wanting. Saturday next, Bth December, is tho occasion chosen this year, and arrangements aro well in hand for a garden party at the Convent grounds. Tho attempt will bo made on a lavish scale, and all classes of tho community will bo catered for, from tho youngest to tho oldest. The grounds lend themselves admirably for such a purpose as tho ono intended, and it is a safe prediction that a record crowd will be in attendance to further ono of tho most worthy causes of humanity—that of giving assistance to a fellow creature in distress. Refreshments will bo _in abundance, whilo tho various novelties peculiar to such gatherings will not bo found wanting. The feto will open early in tho afternoon and will continue until 8.30 p.m.
