FIRE IN ENGINE SHED.
OUTBREAK AT WOODVILLE
WOODVILLE, Sept. 7. At about- 11.30 last night a fire broke out in the engine shed at the railway station, and but for the prompt action of a cleaner, Mr George Young, the only person on duty at the time, very heavy loss would have been sustained., , . ~ Mr Young was busy on one ot the four engines in the shed when lie noticed a brigftt light. On investigating, he discovered that a fire had broken out, apparently in the drivers room, and that it had already secured a strong The fire brigade was immediately called up, and Mr Young with commendable promptitude set to work to get the engines out of the shed. He succeeded in getting three out of range of the fire, but could not get at the fourth, and it was considerably scorched by the flames but not very seriously damaged. , . The Woodville fire brigade was promptly on the scene and soon. had the outbreak under control, savins a considerable part of the shed from destruction. The drivers’ room was gutted, and the locomotive office—a small building adjacent to the shed—was also damaged. , The total loss is not expected to be over £SOO.
