TRAIN STRIKES MOTOR CAR.

DRIVER’S NARROW ESCAPE.

MARTON, Sept. 6. At the railway crossing on the main road just above Hunterville a southbound mixed train struck a car driven by Mr Claude Mitchell, of the firm of Messrs Grant and Mitchell, Palmerston North, who was proceeding to Hunterville. The vehicle was struck m the middle on the driver’s side and was carried for several yards and smashed to pieces. Mr Mitchell had a miraculous escape from death, sustaining injuries to his face and shock. The crossing approach from the north is not a bad one.

Mr Mitchell was taken to a hospital at Hunterville, but his condition, his many friends will be pleased to learn, is not serious.
