YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES.

At the afternoon call on tho Wellington Stock Exchango yesterday sales 'were reported of 4i per cent. Government bonds at £99 ss, National Bank of Australasia (£5 paid, two parcels), at £9 9s, Now Zealand Brcwerios at 49s 6d, Colonial Sugar at £63, and Mount Lyell Mining at 34s 9d. Thero was a fair demand for Government bonds, with buyers of tho 4j per cents, at £99, and tho 5j por cents, at £lOl 2s 6d. Now Zealand Browerios .bonds wero wanted at 245.

Bank shares woro in poor demand, but prices remain firm. There wero buyers of Australia Bank of Commerce at £33 10s, National Bank of Australasia, £lO paid, at £lB 19s, and £5 paid at £9 8s 6d. Sellers quoted £ls Is for Bank of Australasia, 31s for Commercial Bank of Australia, £7 4s for National Bank of Now Zealand, and 61s 9d for Bank of Now Zealand. There was a demand for National Mortgage at 80s 6d and for N.Z. Loan and Mercantile at £llO. N.Z. Guarantee and Corporation, preferenco, woro wanted at 21s, and New Zealand Investment at 9s 6d. Gas shares wero steady, with bids of 24s lid for Christchurch Gas, 9s 6d for Gisborno Gas, and 17s for Wellington Gas, preference. Gear Meat wero firm at 40s 6d. Huddart-Parkor preferenco woro wanted at 21s 3d, cum. dividond and Union Steam at 20s 6d.

Wellington Woollen shares wore firm, tho ordinary at £6 10s, and tho preference at £6 11s. Westport Coal wero steady at 30s 4d.
