WANGANUI BEAT NORTH AUCKLAND.
AVHANGAREI, Sept. 6.
The Wanganui Rugby touring team paid its first visit »to North Auckland to-day, and met a representative fifteen from the peninsula. The weather turned out very wet, but notwithstanding the heavy ground and greasy ball 2000 onlookers were treated to a fairly fast game. The first score came three minutes after the start for Wanganui, when McLean, aided by a strong north-east wind, kicked a penalty goal. In the second qua iter the visitors notched a t,ry through the agency of Hall, who seized the opportunity of a misfield by the local fullback. They also succeeded in gaining another try in the third quarter, Harrington breaking away with the ball at his toe from halfway and scoring after a nice effort. The final quarter was marked by the repeated onslaughts of the northerners, and Wanganui failed after an .excellent^ defence to keep their line intact,. Wells ending up a brilliant rearguard movement by scoring near the corner. The game ended: Wanganui 9 points, North Auckland 3.
