RANGITIKEI GOLF CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent.) BULLS, Sept. 4. The second round of the men’s golf championship, played on Saturday in windy weather, contained no surprises, though A. Law, last year’s champion, had a close call with J. S. Trieker, the latter (when only 1 down) being stymied ion tho last green when lie had fair prospects of evening up, and carrying tho game further. Results wero as follow :—Law defeated J. S. Trieker 2 up, Drew defeated H. E. Trieker 6 and 5, S. Goebel defeated Cooper 1 up, H. Signal defeated Amon 5 and 4 ; Tho draw for the third round is as follows :—Law plays Drew, Signal plays Goebel. In tho second round of the ladies championship the following games have been plaved:— Aliss O. Lovett defeated Airs Goodall 1 up, I Aliss Taverner defeated Aliss Walker 2 and 1, Airs AlcDonell defeated Miss D- Perrett 6 and 5. In tho ladies’ handicap competition Airs Marumaru defeated Airs Anderson, 6 and 4, and Aliss Al. Bailey defeated Aliss Brookic, 6 and 4.
There will bo no play in the ladies’ competition on Wednesday, matches being postponed untii Friday. RUGBY. Bulls seniors have won tho championship of Rangitikei this season, and are to be congratulated upon their success. As in most country districts, tho players are drawn from all parts, and only meet on the playing fields when matches are in progress. Rata, which had a chance until beaten in tho last two games by Bulls and Huntorville, are now out of tho running, and the withdrawal of Tokorangi gives Bulls a clear lead which places tho championship beyond doubt, and the competition is now closed. PLUNKET SOCIETY.
Tho quarterly meeting of tho Bulls branch of tho Plunket Society was held in Clifton Hall on Alonday afternoon, tho following being present:—Mesdames Goodall (president), Holland, Olson and Wilson, and Aliss Green. An apology for absence was received from Mrs Robins. The committee passed for payment the branch’s quota, £9, duo to the nurse for tho half-vcnr’s attendance.
It was reported that the nurse had been kept very busy, and the increased number of mothers and babies brought to the hall on visiting days showed that her services were being appreciated. It was resolved that members of the committee attend a meeting at Alarton shortly, when reports of the recent conference in Wellington will bo received.
NOTES. Parents and children are taking a lively interest in the children’s fnney dress ball, to be hold in Clydesdale Hall on Thursday evening, and the function promises to be a great success. AJrs J. Dunham has been seriously ill, hut yesterday’s report stated that her eondilion was showing much improvement. Air and Airs Al. Bovan returned home on Sundav evening after an enjoyable motor tour of Taranaki and Waikato. Schools on the district re-opened on Tuesday after the winter vacation. There is not. much sickness here at present, and school attendances are almost normal. Alembcrs of Ohakea Aliniature Rifle Club will fire against Bulls, at Bulls, on Tuesday evening, the McKclvie Cup being at stake. On Thursday evening Ohakea visit Rangiotu.
