Mrs R. P. Kirkland is spending; a few days in Wellington visiting friends.

Friends of the family will regret to. hear of the death at Wellington of Mrs Gicsen, mother of Mr H. AV. Geisen, of Dannevirke. The deceased lady was 86 years of age. At the Wellington Competitions yesterday Miss Betty Gillespie (Dannevrke) and Miss Jean Scott (Palmerston North) were third in the dance duo nine and under 12 years. The resignation of -Miss Lorna Waters ?rom t-h© teaching (Staff of Central School was received with regret by the eommitteo last evening. Eulogistic reference was made to Miss T’aters’s services to the school in the past and good wishes were extended for every success ini her new sphere of activities at the Shannon School.

The death took place in Greymouth on Saturday morning of Mrs Agnes Ann Furness, mother of Mr Angus Furness, of the mechanical staff of the “Standard.” The deceased lady was a native of Hokitika, having been born there 55 years ago, and for some years past she had resided in Greymouth. Her husband predeceased her six years ago. In addition to Mr Angus Furness there are three other sons—Edward, Robert and Colin (Greymouth), and one daughter, Mrs James Cowan, of Greymouth. One son, Leslie George, was killed at Gallipoli in 1915.
