RETIREMENT OF D. G. LOWE
GREAT CAREER ON THE TRACK
(British Official Wireless.) Received August 25, 11.30 a.m. RUGBY, Aug. 24. D. G. Lowe, tho famous English runner, who has announced his retirement from the track although only 26 years old, has been running in active competition against the cream of athletes tor seven or eight years. At the recent Olympio Games at Amsterdam he not only retained his Olympic title, but revealed even better form than a* the previous Pans meeting. Ho won tlie 800 metres in one minute 51 4-5 seconds, which is an Olympic record. This he followed up by winning the 800 metres at Berlin last Sunday, beating Dr. Otto Pcltzer, tlio famous Gorman runner, in one minute 51 1-5 seconds. This was revenge for his defeat by Dr. Peltzer in the famous race at Stamford Bridge, when both beat the existing world’s record for tlie distance. This triumph marks the end of Lowe’s great career on the. track.
