JUNIOR ORCHESTRA.
CONCERT AND DANCE. Last evening, members of the Palmerston North Junior Orchestra entertained friends at a concert and dance in tho Y.W.C.A. club rooms when a most enjoyable time was spent. Items rendered by the orchestra were: March, “Viscount Nelson”; overture, “Rhinefels”; selection, “Arcadians”; intermezzo, “Lallah Rook” ; march, “Austrian Army.” Other items were: Violin solos. Miss F. Howley; trio, Misses I l ’. McKenzie, Wycherley and M. McKenzie; songs. Miss D. Stairs; flute solo, Mr W. Wilson.
The president, Mr E. D. Wycherley, welcomed the guests and expressed the pleasure of the orchestra at being able to entertain them.
During the evening, it was announced that the conductor, Mr J. W. Huggins, was relinquishing the baton, and that tho orchestra had played under him for the last time. Mr Huggins, in making the announccmnt, said that he had had a most enjoyable time with the orchestra and he regretted his inability to continue. He wished to express his appreciation of the efforts of the performers; and more esjiccially of those members who, while members of the Orchestra] Society, helped tho cause of music by being members of the junior body. Mr J. R. T. Slipper, on behalf of tho orchestra, expressed the regret which they felt at losing Mr Huggins’s services and commented on the smooth relations existin'! between the conductor .and instrumentalists. A dainty supper made a suitable break between the music and dancing which was continued to a late hour. The Mayor, Mr A. J. Graham, was a guest for part of the evening.
