MEETING OF COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of tho Kiwitea County Council was held at Kimbolton yesterday, there being present: Crs. L. T. McLean (in the chair), D. L. Younger, W. Hair, N. V. Shannon, T. D. Wood, W. P. Shaw, F. O. Stack and J. A. T. Brown. CORRESPONDENCE. From tho Audit Department returning the county's balance-sheets tor the past two years without “tag." it was decided to have them printed and circulated. from the engineer to the Oroua County Council enquiring if the council was prepared to pay half the cost of the erection of a boundary sign-post on tho Feilding-Hunterviiie highway, at the boundary between the JhLiwiteu and Oroua Counties. —Agreed to. From the Commissioner of Crown Lands forwarding schedule of “thirds" and “fourths," accrued from sections in the county, to March 31, 1928, amounting to £302 16s 9d.—Received. hrom Messrs Stone Bros., Kimbolton, requesting permission to erect angle posts and strainers on the roadside tronting their property, Valley Road. ■—Granted. From Mr T. Mayhew, Waituna ■ West, calling attention to the condition of the boundary fence between the section occupied by him and the .reserve next to the Waituna bridge, and offering to supply tho necessary material and have the work carried out, provided the council pays.half the cost of same. —Agreed to. From the medical officer of health advising that the regulations under tho Health Act, 1920, to prevent the contamination of food during manufacture and sale provide for the licensing of food shops, and requesting the council to take the necessary steps to comply with the provisions of the regulations.—Referred to the county clerk to consult with Oroua County Council with the object of embodying a regular tion in the West Coast Counties joint by-laws. , _ . From the clerk to the Kairanga County Council forwarding £344 11s 2d, being the council’s share of the heavy traffic license fees collected for the quarter ended June 30, 1928.—Received. From the chairman of the Main Highways Board forwarding a supply of schedules showing the number of vehicles registered to June 30, 1928. Received. From the Public Works Department advising payment of subsidy on the main highways in the county, amounting to £252 3s lOd. —Received. Mr T. J. Cole, Sandon Block, asking for a supply of metal to provide a turning place on the Waipuru Road near his property for a cream lorry.— Agreed to. From the clerk to the 'Waitomo Countv Council regarding the formation of a Dominion County Clerks’ Association and requesting permission for Mr Hesseltine to attend a meeting in Wellington next month.—Agreed to. OVERSEERS’ REPORTS. The following report was presented by the county overseers (Messrs Stent and Eggers): Cheltenham Riding.—The roadman has attended to the cleaning out of drains and the usual maintenance work on Beaconsfield Road. Levett’s Road and Barrow’s Line have been trimmed with the grader, and several norrow bend 3 have been widened on Barrow’s Line, and a large timber culvert on this road has been re-decked. All the main highways in the riding have received attention with the grader. Waituna Riding—The contractor has delivered an additional 418 cubic yards of maintenance metal on the Rangitikei Valley main highway. The new metal on a section of the Pakihikura Road has been trimmed and knapped. Satisfactory arrangements were made for opening of drains on tho Rangitikei Valley Road south. This work is now in progress and should bo completed some time next week. Arrangements have l also been made with the contractor for the delivery of 300 cubic yards of maintenance metal on Tapuwae Road at 6s per yard. The usual maintenance work has received attention. Ungo Riding.—An up-to-date tip chute has been built for loading metal at the pit in Mrs T. Shannon s property, and a pit prepared for carting out metal on No. ’,377 main highway, and to date 56 cubic yards have been delivered on Sinclair s Road. The roadman has attended to tfie usual surface work and removing large stones from the road surface. Sinclair’s Road has also received a dressing with the grader. Kiwitea Ruling.—The usual surface work has received attention, and a section of Perry’s Line has been trimmed with the grader. The watertables have been cleaned out, and the ruts repaired on Coulter’s Road. A considerable quantity of metal has been stripped and chambers cut in Mr Scott's pit on Mcßeth’s Road. This metal will be required for maintenance purposes during the current year. The main highway has received attention with the grader. Kimbolton Riding.—The usual maintenance work on all roads has been carried out and a breakaway on the branch road has been filled in. A start has been made with the delivering of maintenance metal on Mcßeth’s Line from the pit on the junction road, and to date 46 cubic yards have been delivered. The grader plant is at present trimming the main highway in this riding. Peep-o-Day Riding.—On the eastern section of this riding the roadman has attended to the usual surface work, and the widening of narrow bends. On the western section, the trimming and knapping of new metal has been attended to; also the cleaning out of water channels and cutting back of fern and scrub on the roadside. General.—The contractors have completed the work of constructing the reinforced concrete culvert at the approach to the Waituna bridge, and the earthfilling work should start at an early date. GENERAL. Tho bank balances were reported as follow, all being in credit: County fund account, £3236 18s Id; accommodation special loan account, £226 9s lid; Kimbolton cemetery account, £2O 4s Id ; land fund account No. 2 £354 11s Id; Waituna cemetery account, £lO 0s 2d.

Tenders are to bo called for the delivery of 800 yards of screened metal from Kiwitea stream to tho dump on Cheltenham Cross Road ; 300 yards from Davies cutting pit for delivery where required; GOO yards for delivery on Mclleth’s Line ; 400 yards for delivery on Perry’s Line and 200 yards for delivery on Coulter’s Line.

The registration fee for rabbit dogs owned by permanent rabbitcrs was fixed at Is per dog. It waa reported that, of the- general rates struck, amounting to £11,269 14s 8d ; £4626 Os Id had been paid, leaving outstanding £6743 14s 7d. General rates outstanding on account of previous including last year, amounted to £136 10s Id. Of the special rates levied, amounting to £2773 12s lOd, £BB7 8s 6d had been paid, leaving outstanding £IBB6 4s 4d. Special rate outstanding on account of previous years, including last year, amounted to £9 19s Bd.
