GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLECHASE.

Beau Cavalier tried to win the Grand National Steeplechase all the way on Tuesday (writes ‘ The Watcher.”) He made a bad landing at Cutts’s the first time round, but by the time ho had gone a mile and a-half he was about eight lengths ahead of AViltshire, who was a trifle over that margin ahead of Pouri, with Tuki another lour lengths back, .attended by Dubious. Pamplona followed, while Tho Babe and Passin Through were well back. There was no change in the older, and six furlongs from homo AViltshire, having cleared tho Kennel's Double, set off after Beau Cavalier. He reached and passed him just before jumping the next fence —the sod wall —and then Pouri began to move up, followed by Tuki. Wiltshire led Pouri, Beau Cavalier and Tuki over the last fence, and AViltshire won very comfortably by ten lengths from Pouri, who beat Tula by eight lengths. Beau Cavalier was three lengths further back fourth, and -Dubious was the only other to finish. The Babe balked. Passin’ Through pulled up’ and Pamplona broke down. Wiltshire w.as always going like a winner, and bar one or two poor jumps, his fencing was good. Pouri did not jump well at a good many fences, but he had too much pace for Tuki, who ran his usual plodder’s race. Dubious was never dangerous. ; Excepting .at Cutts’s the first time, Beau Cavalier lumped well. He was simply beaten ay his weight after a fine effort.
