DAVIS CUP RESULT.
TILDEN OFFERS NO EXCUSES
(Australian Press Association.) PARIS, July 30.
“As Cochet played to-day. he is'unloubtedly the best player in the world. L played even harder than against Laeoste, but could not overcome Cochet’s attacks. I have no excuses ito offer. We did not win the cup, but we have done our best.” This was W. T. Tilden’s comment after the 113 minutes’ struggle in which Henri Cochet won the Davis Cup for France. Before the match French and British critics thro light that the odds were on the American, but Cochet was inspired as never before. Tilden tried everything—lighting speed cannon-ball and foxy services, and he cut and sliced shots all over the court. Cochet, however, played like a machine.
