RUSSELL STREET SCHOOL.
FIRST ON LIST OF URGENT WORKS.
Mr Evenstrom stated to-day that, in committee formed at a meeting of householders held to urge the erection of a school in Russell Street, has received a communication from the Wanganui Education Boand with reference to the matter. The board, the letter stated, had made every endeavour to secure a grant from the Government for the erection of a building, the application having been before the Education Department since September last. On June 16 the matter was discussed with the Director of Education when he was in Wanganui, and as recently as June 27 the board again urged the department to authorise a grant. Russell Street occupied second place on the list of urgent works submitted to tho department. As the first case on the list was held up temporarily on .account of the question of site, Russell Stneot should in the ordinarv course be the first grant made. The board was hopeful that authority to proceed with the work would be granted very shortly. It was also pointed out that a deputation to the board could in no way speed up tho erection of the school. . Mr Erenstrom stated to-day that, in view of the fact that .a grant would m ost probably be me do in the near future, it was likely that the deputation arranged .at the householders meeting would not wait on the boand.
