DAYLIGHT BAKING.
CONFERENCE IN WELLINGTON.
Per Press Association
WELLINGTON, June 14. A conference in regard to daylight baking was held to-day. Mr Watson, in opening for the bakers, said that they wore not asking for daylight baking, but for the cessation of work between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m. He instanced what had been done in a number of other countries witli regard to doing away with night baking. Both Justices Stringer and Sim had expressed tho view that legislation should be introduced dealing with the subject. The bakers held that the need of the public could be met with a start a 4 a.m. On behalf, of the master bakers, Mr Burt said that' chaos had resulted when any endeavour was made to restrict the hours of baking. The resolution in favour of the system passed at Geneva had to be largely discounted as it was carried at the instance of tiie small European countries in which the conditions were totally different from the condition in Great Britain and America. The carters and the general public were entitled to consideration. If the proposal was carried, it would be necessary for practically every bakehouse in the Dominion to duplicate its plant.
