S.P.C.A.

ANNUAL AIEETING

Mr A. J. Graham presided over the annual meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the S.P.C.A. last evening, there being a fair attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Morgan and Mr C. F. Spooner. . The annual report previously published in the “Standard,” was read and adopted. Mr M. H. Oram stated that it was a matter for congratulation that the society had come through the last 1months so successfully and the committee felt that the presence of the inspector had had a salutary effect m preventing, any cruelties which might nave occurred in the town. As the object of the society was the prevention rather than the detection of cruelty, it would seem that, from the lack of prosecutions, the society was doing good work in the community. A matter that would need serious consideration in the future, concluded Mr Oram, was that of finance. T.hc chairman stated that the administrative costs had been very small also that more members could be secured if the work of the society was brought more prominently before tlie public. ~ A warm tribute was paid to Mes=is M. H. Oram and G. I. McGregor lor their excellent services rendered to the society during the pivst year and <n*-0 to the general executive, especially Art W.
