EDUCATION LEASES.
DISSATISFACTION WITH TENURE.

A largely-attended meeting of the rural education endowment leaseholders' at Gore to-day discussed the unsatisfactory nature of the present tenures. Speakers held that short lenses were against the best interests of tho farming community owing to the difficulty in raising finances and on account of the raised rentals due to improvements. It was agreed to circulate a petition, which will be placed beforo Parliament, asking for a 66 years’ lease, the right of perpetual renewal, and the right to purchase the freehold. It was decided also to send a deputation to 'Wellington to interview the Prime Minister and the Ministers of Lands and Education and the Leader of the Opposition.
