ARREST IN WAIKATO.

REMAND TO PAHIATUA. Per Press Association. HAMILTON, May 22. The Press was asked to suppress the name of an elderly Pahi.atua man, who appeared before Mr Platts, S.M., today, charged with attempting to leave his wife unsupported while intending to leave New Zealand. The arrest was’made on warrant from Pabiatua. Counsel for the accused said that he was a justice of the peace, and a. man of considerable wealth. He was separated from his wife, and paid her £4 10s a week, and her unmarried daughter £2. He had remitted sums regularly. Counsel thought that the facts would convince the Bench that the suspicions were groundless. The Magistrate granted a remand to Paliiatua.
