NEW ZEALAND'S FUTURE.

FEELING OF OPTIMISM

(Australian Press Association —United

Service). Received Mav 23, 5.5 a.m. LONDON, May 22

The Prince of Wales was the chief guest .at the New Zealand Association’s annual dinner.

The attendance numbered four hundred and included Mr L. C. Amery, Earl Jellicoe, Lord Eustace Percy, Lord Kylsant, Sir Joseph Ward, Mr IV. Peniber Reeves, Sir Ernest Ruther-ford,-Sir James Mills. Sir James Parr, who presided, contrasted the trade balance of £2,500,000 last year, with the present balance of £10,500,000. New Zealand farmers in 1918 exported—mostly to Britain—£l4,ooo,ooo worth of produce, compared with £7,000,000 worth last year.

Responding to the toast ,of his health the Prince of Wales stated that he had compared memories with the Duke of York, and both agreed on the great future ahead of New Zealand. The presence of so many Empire-builders and Sir James Parr’s figures proved the needlessness -of undue boasting.

The Prince rejoiced that New Zealand cadets were now eligible for entry at the Sandhurst and Woodwich military academies.

Mr Amery predicted that New Zealand’s future in the Pacific would equal Britain’s in the Atlantic.
