AGED MAORI’S DEATH. (From Our Own Correspondent.) BULLS, May 7.
The death occurred at Shannon on Thursday of a well-known local native named David Araporo, who has farmed on the river flat below the township for about 22 years. He originally came from Shannon, and, feeling that his end was near, asked to bo taken to his old “pa,” where ho passed away shortly after arrival. Arapero leaves a widow, two sons, Tom and Dan, both of Bulls, and two daughters, Airs ICereona, of Shannon, and Airs Kerikopu, of Taumarunui. RUGBY. Bulls and Marton seniors met on Bulls Domain on Saturday afternoon, and after a dull, lifeless game, tho teams left tho field without a scoro being registered. Both clubs possess good forwards, but back play was poor. During the first spell a Alarton player named Smith met with an injury to his back, and had to seek medical treatment.- Tho only bright spots in tho course of tho afternoon wero a sparring match between two over-enthusiastic spectators, and the amusing sight of a linoumpire, returning from the goal posts, getting mixed up in a forward rush. Tho Bulls junior team to meet Rata juniors at Bulls on Wednesday will bo selected from tho followingG'oogan, Campion, Bevan, L. Ellery, Carter, Thompson, Harris, Harrison, R. Ingram, Rewiti, Hollis, C. Wereta, Gilbert, Chambers, C. Timmins, Brookio and Beran. Tho match starts sharp at 3 p.m., and any' player unablo to attend is asked to notify tho captain immediately. GENERAL. Air and Airs A. J. Law left by car on Saturday on a three weeks’ tour of Taranaki and Auckland.
