ANNUAL REPORT. In • reviewing the activites of the past year, the annual report of the Palmerston North Orchestral Society, which .will be.presented at to-night’s meeting, states as follow: —As in the previous year only two concerts were presented and the subscription was reduced from £1 Is to 14s. Although our bank balance has not been increased, we have spent a considerable sum on new music and the purchase of a trombone. Funds in hand amount to £l3l 12s 7d and our total assets are £291 8s 7d while our liabilities are shown as nil. The position of the society financially is, therefore, quite strong. We regret, however, to say that the expenses in putting on concerts shows a considerable increase and this will have to be watched very carefully in future, otherwise our expenses will become altogether too great for the society to carry. It is to be regretted that several of our playing members have left the town, but we have hopes of the assistance of several new players in the future. In the coming year, with the support of the active members, it is hoped to present three concerts instead of two, which, if effected will, we trust, meet with the hearty approval of our honorary subscribers who have shown such enthusiastic approval of our efforts in the past. There are vacancies in our ranks for playing members who are invited to make application to the conductor. Tho society has been pleased to receive gifts of musical numbers from its many supporters and will again be pleased to welcome works for presentation this year.
