(From Our Own Correspondent). BULLS, Jan. 20. Rain appears to be as far off as over, and many farmers and townsfolk aro carting or carrying water. Tlioso possessing windmills and wells aro better situated, wliilo the artesian flow at Flock House is proving a groat boon to staff, trainees and stock. Tho local flaxmill is able to work full time, thanks to tho success of the woll sunk after tho Rangitikei River changed its course to the southern bank. Motorists and others travelling between Bulls and Sanson are forced to make a wide detour at present owing to tarsealing operations on tho main road. Tho soaling oL tho road is proceeding steadily, and tho highway will bo a boon when iinishod. Meanwhile, tho country roads aro being badly cut up by heavy traffic which they woi’o never intended to carry. Local stock-breeders wore very successful at tho Marton Show, Sir James Wilson and Messrs C. E. Vile, A. C. Vilo, J. I'. McKolvie, H. Bowln and 11. J. Fagan scoring well in sheep classos, wliilo Mossrs A. Yardloy and O. C. Ellcrm gained many awards with their pigs. Tho Bulls Bowling Club will play a return match with Oroua at Feilding on Wednesday next, probably live rinks making tho trip. Great interost is bolng taken in club competitions, results of which arc as follow :—Fairer Bowls (handicap) : 11. Stevens (scr.) 21 boat Drew (scr.) 20; E. Wilson (6) 27 boat Archer (scr) 23. Ingram Button (handicap) : F. Stevens (16) 34. boat Rich (20) 30. Paul Feathers: McDonoll and E. Wilson 20 boat Price and Archer 7. Perrett Buttons : F. Stevens and Walker 20 beat Price and Roberts 11. Two local athletes, E. Broughton and R. B. Ingram, showed good form at Marton sports on Wednesday evening, and should bo very fit when tho Bulls-Ohakea sports gathering comes along. Owing to a recont accident F. Ingram was unablo to complete, but ho hopes to recommence training in a week or two. During tho .week local athletes were plensed to welcome an old boy of tho Bulls High School, Stan. Ramson, the present 440 hurdles champion. Stan, is a fine all-round athlete, and is a credit to hi 6 ‘“alma mater.”
