HUGE TOMATO CROP.
HAWKE’S BAY GROWERS
“Hawke’s Bay tomato growers will experience one of the greatest crops in the history of that district and the quantity will be about double that of any previous period,” said Mr eGo. A. Green, organiser for the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture, in an interview.
“Some time ago the growers in Hawke’s Bay formed an association,” continued Mr Green, “and at a meeting I attended last week it was decided to affiliate with the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation. To my mind this is a step in the right direction, because had they not done so there was a likelihood of the tomato growers losing a considerable quantity of their crop, .At the present time there are no adequate arrangements for marketing the product and prior to the meeting there was considerable difficulty in regard to packing cases. Now that the Hawke’s Bay people have joined up amongst themselves and also affiliated to the federation it is reasonable to anticipate that most of their apprehensions in regard to the disposal of thenproduct will disappear.”
