Using a modification of tho Karolus system, the Austrian telegraph offices are accepting for 'transmission to Germany, photographs and papers in colours, except green, mauve and blue, which are not recommended, says the Vienna correspondent of tho Times. The pictures may portray persons, drawings, cheques, architect’s plans, and documents either typed or handwritten. Even Chinese characters can be sent. The only restriction is that the size of the paper is limited to 4 by 7} inches, which is calculated to accommodate 400 words in German small type. The cost of transmission for the minimum size, 4 by 1} inches, is 8s lid an inch. Each additional 4 by three-quarters of an inch will cost 2s. Transmissions can be sent at nighttime at reduced rates.
