DEEP-SEA FISHING
INQUIRIES BY ANGLERS. SPORTSMAN FROM OVERSEAS. (By Telegraph.—Secial to Standard.) AUCKLAND, Oct 14. With the early capture of the hrs. Mako shark preparations are now being mado for the forthcoming deep sea nsning season at the Bay of Islands. School schnapper have recently ppeared, and according to a well-kno launch owner this is an indication_ tli. < tho black marlin is now returning to ins summer liauuts. Generally the season does not reach its height until February, but all types of game #fish were landed before the new year last season. . It is expected that the Russell grounds will prove even more popular this year, and numerous inquiries concerning fishing are coming from anglers overseas. , . Sir Frederick Cooper and Captain Cooper, English sportsmen, have made arrangements to visit the fishing grounds in tjio north before going to Tokaanu for trout fishing. Colonel Strutt, a cousin of Lord Helper of Derbyshire, has also made arrangements to jdsit the Bay of Islands. Writing from Avalon, Santa Catalina Island, California, Mr Zane Grey has advised Mr E. C. Arlidge, of Russell, that he will not visit New Zealand this season. However, he has completed all arrangements to return to the Dominion at tho end of next year. His tv o expert launcliinen, Messrs. F. Arlidge and P. Williams, of Russell, will meet him at Papeete in September, and after fishing in the vicinity the party will come on to New Zealand by mail steamer, arriving at Wellington on December 17. The launches Alma G and Zane Grey have been engaged by Mr Grey from December 20, 1928, to March 30, 1929, for dep sea fishing at tho Bay of Islands.
