MEAT BOARD’S POWER.
CASE BEFORE FULL COURT,

WELLINGTON, Oct. 14. The Full Court was engaged this afternoon in hearing an originating summons under the Declaratory Judgments Act, 1908, in which the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board is the plaintiff and the Attorney-General and the Controller and Auditor-General are defendants. The questions for the determination of the Court are as follow: (1) Whether expenditure by the plaintiff board of funds of the board in acquisition of land in London or elsewhere for the purpose of the erection of meat stores thereon, and in the erection of such stores, is lawful expenditure by the plaintiff board of funds of the board. (2) Whether if the plaintiff board has sucli power it has also power to mortgage or charge the land acquired and all or any of the plaintiff board’s assets. (3) Generally, what are the powers of plaintiff board in regard to the purchase of lands and buildings in London or elsewhere for the purpose of the board. Messrs Justice Sim, Reed, Adams and Ostler were on the Bench. Mr Myers, K.C., and Mr Johnstone appeared for the plaintiff board and Mr Fair, K.C., for the defendants. The hearing is unfinished.
