Tlio Davis Cup committee at Philadelphia held the first drawings for the matches between France and the United States, which open on tho Germantown cricket club grounds to-morrow. Johnston meets Lacosto and Tilden meets Cochet in tho opening singles) games. The doubles drawings will he made to-morrow.

The general impression is that France has the best chance it yet liad of taking the cup. Lacoste, Cochet, Borotra and Brugnon are all reported to be in excellent form, despite earlier rumours that Borotra was slightly off his game. On tho other hand, Tilden is understood to ho playing much better than during tho European tour, while Johnston shows little or no variation from previous seasons. It is believed that Johnston and Lacosto aro about oven, hut that Tildon faces a hard battle with Cochet.— A. and N.Z. cable.
