That, at present there is little to spare in the State coffers was indicated by tho Minister of Agriculture (Hon. O. J. Hawken) yesterday at Wellington, when replying to a deputation from tho National Beekeepers’ Association, who had sought increased assistance from tho Government. “There is a limit,’’ said the Minister, “and unfortunately this year we are very much limited for finance. As a matter of fact, we have to restrict our estimates very considerably to make ends meet. The Department of Agriculture lias reduced it by a good many thousands of pounds to meet conditions, and other departments have done tho same. We are rather hard up this yesr.”
