TEMPTED WOMAN.
STEALS FROM FRIEND. THE COURT LENIENT. WELLINGTON, April - 22. “I regret very much taking the money. I was tempted and I fell.” Such was the excuse made by a -woman named-Florence Maud Lovell, aged 23, in court to-day. Having a young child to keep as well as support* an unemployed husband and herself, she stole £3'los fromthe purse of a friend with whom she went visiting at Lyall Bay. While the friend was being entertained, she entered a bedroom where the hats and purses were and stole the money. She was already on two years’ probation for the theft of £43 last yejir at Palmerston North.
Mr E. Page, S.M., added one year to the present term of probation. In reply to a • request for suppression of the name, Mr Page said he had no power to suppress on a second offence.
