FOXTON NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
In his annual report the town clerk (Mr Wm. Trueman) referring to the much-dis-cussed Foxton library, says that it is slowly recovering from the second, fire. “After the Council Chambers were burned down tho library was housed in the Town Hall and when that building was destroyed temporary premises were secured in Alain Street. Tho library rate produces about £SO, subscriptions £36, and this is expended on new bocks £67, salaries £3O, rent £l9 10s, sundries £7, showing an excess of expenditure over receipts of about £4O. A proposal 'ha;i been considered and plans prepared for fixing up the temporary town hall as a public reading room, library, Plunket room and band practice room at a cost of atx ut £350, but lack of funds has precluded this being done. The plans are filed, hov iver, ana the work can bo gone on with f so dorised whenever finance permits. Tho ibrary account has a balance in hand of ji st over £IOO, but this will really bo re pi red to purchase new books for the libri ,r; if the foregoing scheme is carried out.”
