RIFLE SHOOTING.

MINIATURE ASSOCIATION,

The third annual report of the Manawatu Miniature Riflo Association says that the association completed tho third seasoci with a good credit balance, and, judging by past seasons, the incoming one should prove a record for tho association. The majority of the clubs have commenced practising and by reports to hand aro doing exceedingly well. There seems to be still a little dissatisfaction regarding the travelling arrangements for the McKolvio and M.M.R.A. Cups, but as several different methods have now been tried this should be settled without difficulty at the annual meeting. The arrangements for these matches last season were upset at the start through two clubs being unable to fulfil their engagements, the clubs concerned being Rongotea and Marton, both having had to wind up owing to lack of members. ’ It is a pity these two have gone out of existence as botli were strong clubs at one time. Rongotea Club was the first to hold the McKclvie Cup and in fact was the means of getting this fine trophy for competition. The postal cups were again keenly competed for and both found new homes this season. The ammunition used by the association during the season did not appear to be up to the usual standard, and it is expected that a new brand will be tried during the incoming season. Tho shooting results generally last year showed a decrease over all previous years, the highest totals being well below the standard of the previous best. In tho interassociation shoots tho association’s teams fared very badly, being defeated on every oocasion. In conjunction with theso matches tho usual Jones Shield matches were fired, R.S.A. Club retaining the shield in the first match, and losing to Linton Club at second shoot. The annual championship meeting was well up to expectation, the shooting being of a fairly good standard. The A grade champion proved to be Mr C. Simpson who shot with marked consistency. H. Barlow, last season’s winners shot consistently again, and secured second place. Tho B grade aggregate went to H. Chapman of Rangiotu Club. The champion of champion* match for the Cliffo and Remington medal went to G. Shelley and tho champion teams’ match was won by Linton Club. Winners of the association’s teams match cups were as under: illKelvie Cnp, Linton Club; M.M.R.A. Cup, Bulls Club; Cliffo and Remington Cup, Ohakea Club, Tisdall Cup, Awahuri. ’lho presentation night did not get tho *upport. of all the clubs, several failing to havo representatives presetit. It is hoped that the incoming season will see all clubs represented at this function. In conclusion tho association thanks all who assisted tho sport during the season, especially the Press, which did all it could to assist in getting tho results of all shoots published as soon as possible and proved a great help to tho secretary.
