Hopkinson, Independent M.P. for Mossley (Lancs.), in a speech before the Cambridge Union, said: “I sit in the House of Commons opposite the Socialist community, and see before me the most professed lovers of the human race, but I never met a more blackguardly looking lot, with the appearance of envy, hatred, malice, and all uncharitableness in their faces.”
