WATERLOO AND CHARING CROSS. RECONSTRUCTION PROPOSALS. GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received March 17 9.55 a.m. 1 LONDON, March 16. In the" House of Commons Mr Baldwin announced that the Government was prepared to grant from the roads fund three-quarters of the cost of reconstructing the existing Waterloo Bridge as was recommended by the Royal Commission on cross river traffic. The Government was inviting the County Council and the southern railway to examine the proposal for a double-decker railway bridge at Charing Cross. It was prepared to contribute to the scheme.—A. and N.Z. cable.
