OVERCROWDED SCHOOL.

CHILDREN SEATED ON FJ.OOR. CONDITIONS AT TAIHAPE. TAIHAPE, March 15. The inadequacy, of the accommodation in tire primary department of the Taihape District High School was discussed at a special meeting of the School Committee. The acting-headmaster. Mr S. J. McDonnell, said that, although there were 142 children in the primary division, only half of them could be seated. During the fine weather some of the children were taught in the shelter shed, but when conditions prevented this all those who could not be provided with seating accommodation had to sit on the floor. The position was serious, and under existing conditions the teachers found it impossible to carry on with children under the age of seven. In tile discussion which followed, it was stated that for years a remodelled school had been promised, but nothing had been done in tiro matter. In December tho board wrote stating that ft expected a grant from the Government. The committee, however, considered the position to be one calling for immediate action. It was decidod that the local representative on the Wanganui Education Board be interviewed, and that a deputation wait upon the board.
