INJUNCTION APPLIED FOR. SYDNEY, Dec. 31. In order to test the validity of the recently-passed Newspaper Tax Act, a writ has been issued out of the High Court, on behalf of the Sydney Morning Herald, the Daily Telegraph, the Sun, and the Ebening News, claiming a declaration that the act is invalid, being inconsistent witli the provisions of the Commonwealth Constitution. Plaintiffs ask for an injunction restraining the State of New South Wales and the Colonial Treasurer from proceeding to enforce the act. They will on Tuesday next, the first day on wilich the court opens, file notice of motion asking for an interim injunction in accordance with the claims in the writ.
