FOXTON BEACH
RECORD CROWD ON SATURDAY.
SUCCESSFUL SPORTS MEETING,
Foxton beach was well patronised on Now Year’s Day, the attendance being estimated at between four and five thousand. Bunting was displayed everywhere, and the beaclr presented a very. festiVe appearance. About 600 cars were parked in different spots. Excellent arrangements had been made by the Beach Improvement Committee for the- comfort and entertainment of the visitors, and the half-dozen portable boilers were kept busy for hours supplying hot water. The artesian bore put down recently by the Harbour Board proved a great l>oon, and there was ample water for all. Various sports events were conducted during the day, and these attracted a 'great number of spectators. Mr C. H. Whitehead (chairman of the beach committee), together with Messrs J. Linklater, M.P., Captain Larsen (pilot), J. Prentice, F. Kirk, P. Spelman, W. Petersen, E. Petersen, W. Proctor, A. Alsop and J. Robertson had charge of the events, of which there were about 40. Previous to the programme proper coming on, races were held for the little ones, in which every competitor received a prize. ■ The ocean beach was well patronised by bathers, and, fortunately, the day wa§ not marred by accident of any kind. In the evening a dance was held in the hall, which was filled to overflowing, the beach improvement fund benefiting by about £5. Messrs R. Linklater, B. Turner and T.
