DEEP SEA FISHING.
BIG CATCH AT MANGONUI
MANGONUI, Jan. 1. A mako shark, caught at Doubtless Bay, Mangonui, by Mr Donald McKay, from the launch Merita, weighed 5671 b. It was lift in length and oft in girth.. A picnic party composed of Mr McKinnon, county clerk, and several lady friends, while crossing the bay from Brodie’s Inlet, also saw three other mako sharks, one was much larger than the one caught. The deep-sea angler, Mr Donaldson, who has just arrived with his fishing tackle, admits that this catch is the largest he has seen, and confirms tho opinion that the largest fish are in the most northern waters. Hon. V. H. Reed will arrive next week to try out the waters off Cape Karakara and Berghans Heads. Mr G. Hill will also try out the Doubtless Bay waters in the launch Merita next week.
