SALVATION ARMY.

ANNUAL FIELD DAY

Elaborate arrangements had been made for the annual field day of the Salvation Army at the Ashhurst Domain on New Year’s Day and being favoured by splendid weather the outing proved most enjoyable. The local corps and those from southern towns assembled under Lieut.-Colonel Gunn (field secretary.) assisted by StaffCaptain Maslin (auditor for New Zealand). The Feilding Band was in attendance, also a quartette from the songster brigade who sang “Abide With Mo.” Salvationists and friends were present from tho corps of Pahiatua, Norsewood, Danncvirko, Woodville, Taihape, Marton, Terraco End and Palmerston North.

Nothing was lacking to make the outing enjoyable as various games and competitions were organised, young and old being able to join in. In the afternoon a special thanksgiving service was conducted by Lieut.-Colonel Gunn assisted by various visiting officers. Amongst the visitors were Commandant Feltham and Adjutant Lamberton, of Australia. At the citadel in Broadway yesterday. special meetings were conducted by Lieut.-Colonel Gunn and StaffCaptain Maslin. A very largo congregation extended a hearty welcome to the visitors, who had come direct from headquarters in Wellington. Captain Riseley, who has been assisting at Palmerston North for several months past and who has been a]>pointed officer in charge at Drummond, Southland, was farewelled during the day.
