A. & P. ART UNION

DRAWN LAST NIGHT. FIRST PRIZE TO TAIHAPE RESIDENT. The Golden Fleece' Art Union, promoted by' the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association to raise funds for the improvement of the Showgrounds, was drawn last night, when the interest taken by the public was reflected in an attendance of about 200 spectators. Mr J. A. Nash, M.P.. an ex-presi-dent of the association, had charge of the proceedings, and assisting him were Messrs Jas. Knight, president of the association, and L. H. Collinson, vicepresident. '■; Prior to a start being made with the draw, Mr R. P. Matheson, secretaryorganiser, explained the method of drawing, as already detailed in our columns, mentioning, inter alia, that, under the system adopted, the butts of all unsold and unissued tickets, as well as those sold, would be represented. ■ This fact resulted in the drawing out of the proceedings until a very late hour, many of the numbers formed by the pulling of the marbles out of the bags representing unsold and unissued tickets. For the drawing of the marbles the services of several ladies were requisitioned. Of the three big prizes, the first two, went to outside residents. The third prize went to a local lady. The drawing of all 63 prizes was completed shortly after midnight, when the attendance had dwindled down to about twenty. Results were as follow: First prize of £3OO : J. T.
