LATE COMMERCIAL

WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE. YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. At the afternoon call of the Wellington Stock Exchange yesterday sales were reported of National Bank shares at £6 16s, and Huddart-Parker ordinary at 44s 9d. There was a moderate demand for Government stocks and bonds, with buyers of the 4i per cents, at £96 10s and the 5i per cents, at £99 10s. N.Z. Breweries 10 per cent, bonds were wanted at • 25s 6d, Wellington Gas debentures at £IOO, and Wellington Racing Club debentures at £lO6 10s. Bank shares wore very quiet, and the demand was confined to National Bank shares at £6 16s and Union Bank shares at £ls Bs. Sellers quoted 32s 9d for Commercial Bank shares, £8 4s for English, Scottish and Australian Bank, 62s 3d for Bank of Now Zealand, £45 5s for Bank of New South Wales, and 59s 3d for Western Australian Bank. Equitable Building shares were firm at £8 18s, and Wellington Trust and Loan at £6 ss. There were buyers of N.Z. Guarantee Corporation, ordinary, at 9s lOd, and Wellington Deposit at 9s 3d. Gas shares were steady, with buyers of Wellington Gas ordinary at 27s 3d. National Insurance shares were firm at 41s 6d. There were buyers of N.Z. Refrigerating shares, 20s paid, at 17s 3d, Huddart-Parker ordinary at 44s 6d, Union Steam preference, at 20s 3d, and Wellington Woollen preference at £6 9s. A little business was offering in the miscellaneous section. There were bids of 16s 6d for Dental and Medical Supply, 16s 6d for Farmers’ preference, 35s 6d for W ilson’s Cement, and £4 15s for N.Z. Tho balance-sheet of tho New Zealand Insurance Co., Ltd., for the year ended May 31, states that the nett income from premiums, interest and rents, amounts to £1,183,251. The surplus on the year’s transactions amounts to £197,397, and the reserve fund has been increased by £75,000. The directors recommend tho pay-' ment of a dividend at the rate of 10 per cent, per share, absorbing £62,500, making Is 8d per share for the year, leaving a net balance of £121,983 to be carried forward. SOLD THEIR OUTPUT. The Taihape Co-operative Dairy Company, at its annual meeting, congratulated itself on not following a holding policy last season. “lour directors,” says tho . annual report, “have pursued an opposite course to that followed of late years. Wo have sold all butter upon arrival at Home, and not taken the risk of holding. Larger quantities have been held up this year by other companies, and it appears as if the course pursued by us has been the wiser one.” The chairman of directors (Mr J. A. Anderson) said that instead of taking a gamble by holding, tho company had sold as it went. Though the season was bad, and production fell heavily, “we have available for distribution the largest amount that it has ever been the pleasure of any directorate of this company to place before its shareholders.” 1
