MEETING HELD YESTERDAY. The usual fortnightly meeting of the executive of the Society for the A r _ e ' vention of Cruelty to Animals was held last evening. There was a full attendance of members, Rev. M. A. Rugby Pratt presiding. . The chairman introduced, and welcomed to the meeting, the newly appointed secretary, Mr R. A. Fuller, ana took the opportunity. of expressing the thanks and appreciation of the executive for. the services of the retiring secretary, Mr Mander. Mr G. H. Espiner was duly elected to the executive, and satisfaction was expressed at obtaining his valuable influence. . ’ , It was reported that application had been made to have the inspector s (Mr W. Floyd) residence connected by telephone, and it was decided to have the secretary’s business telephone number also listed under the society’s name in the telephone directory. The honorary solicitor, Mr Oram, presented the legal documents for execution to complete the incorporation of the society, and the thanks of the society for his good services were placed on record. The Wellington Society forwarded particulars of an essay competition for hoys and girls under the age of 16 years, on tho subject of “Kindness to Animals.” Mr Espiner very kindly undertook to submit the matter to the headmasters of tho five local schools with a view to getting the children interested in the subject. The inspector, Mr Floyd, submitted his report, in which he stated that he had visited sales in various parts of the district and had found everything in order. Ho also handed in the amounts collected by him from subscribers.

There having been no previous election of an honorary auditor, Mr W. Hunter was requested to act, and his acceptance of the position was duly appreciated and his election confirmed. The secretary was instructed to procure necessary stationery, •printed matter, etc., and to arrange for tho accident insurance of tho inspector. In reference to Animal Welfare Week it was decided, as the Wellington and Oamaru Societies had already circularised the churches, that this year the local branch take no further action. The hope was expressed that next year, when the society is properly established, a vigorous campaign will bo launched. The society again urged citizens to report to the secretary of tho inspector any cases of cruelty to animals that may come under their notice, and in-, vestigation will immediately be made. A vote of thanks to the chairman termhiated the meeting.
