ACCIDENT AT TAIHAPE.

WELL-KNOWN SETTLER’S DEATH. A serious motor accident occurred on Wednesday evening in Hautapu street, Taihape, when Mr John Bowler, aged 77 years, was knocked down by a motor far. Mr Bowler was walking diagonally across the street, which was dark at the time, when the mudguard of a passing car struck him on the body, twisting him round and throwing him on the asphalt. The back of his head came in violent contact with the road and he was unconscious when picked up a few seconds later. He was taken to the hospital, where ho died, on Thursday without regaining consciousness. Mr Bowler was a well-known settler on the Mataroa road, where he resided for many years.
