EDUCATION BOARD.
LOCAL REPRESENTATIVES EULOGISED. At last night’s meeting of the Wanganui Education Board the retirement of Messrs W. R. Birme and W. !F. DurwjEtrd as members of the board .was the subject of regret by the chairman, who paid a warm tribute to their sterling work during the term of ofiico* Messrs D. W. Low and W. S. Woodroof e have been elected to the vacancy unopposed, and will replace the retiring Palmerston North members. It was remarked that these gentlemen would find it hard to adequately fin the positions left by Messrs Birme and Durward. . , T “He is one of the few njenm New Zealand who have tnade a close study of the underlying principles of education,” said Mr H. Mclntyre, with reference to Mr Birnie “and Mr Durward,” he continued, has been a champion advocate for Palmerston North. Other members spoke in a like manner, and many warm tributes wero paid to the retiring gentlemen. Both members suitably responded, and thanked the board for the many kind expressions. '
