BOARD’S WORK ALMOST COMPLETED. A meeting of tho Manawatu Gorge Road Board of Control was held yesterday afternoon, Air F. J. Nathan presiding. Also present were : Messrs Jos. Batchelar, M. O. Grainger, R. S. Chadwick, C. Cornelius and O. McElroy. Tho Kairanga and Pahiatua County Councils wrote forwarding £B7O each as their final payments towards the cost of the Manawatu Gorge works. Replies were received from a number of the contributory local bodies favouring the board’s suggestion that the deputation to wait on the Prime Minister in regard to the Government taking over the Gorge road as a, national highway be postponed until the time of the counties’ conference in Wellington in July. After brief discussion, it was decided to communicate with the Woodville County Council to ascertain whether that body would bo willing to take over tho work of tho board. The chairmaif reported that the bal-ance-sheet for the past two years’ operations would be completed in a few days’ timo, and that lie would then call a final meeting of the board to adopt same.
