GOLF ITEMS. [From Our Own Correspondent.] Tho following is tlic draw for the first round of the ‘'knock-out” competition for a trophy donated hy Mr J. Graham, vicepresident : Saywell v. Salmond; Sutton v. Gorton; D. J. Pry do, v. Goppock; Fair v. McGruer; Parkcs v. Nicojs; Atkinson v. Fish; Carthcw v. Robertson: Graham v. Saunders; Campbell v. Robertsliaw; Ilaro v. Fawcett; Carmine v. McLean; Dixon v. D. Prydc; McCorkindale v. Miles; Seifert v. Bramwell; Shakes v. Cullinane; Hassell v. Andrews. Members may arrange their opening matches immediately, and it is expected that the first round will bo concluded by the end of July. One of the most popular events in the season’s programme will be held next Saturday afternoon when the annual match —the president's team v. the captain’s team —will be played. In past years this popular fixture has attracted a full muster of players and it is anticipated that this year will be no exception.
The boys’ and girls’ agricultural root crop competitions, held in this district, under the auspices of the local branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union and the Departments of Education and Agriculture are at present being judged by Mr IC. 11. Lange (Education Department) and Mr W. J. McCulloch (Department of Agriculture). One exceptional crop averaging slightly under 40 tons per aero has so far come under their notice. Mr and Mrs C. A. J. Levett are on a visit to Rotorua. ' ■’
