BARRED FROM LANDING.

NOTED AMERICAN WRITER. SENSATION IN ENGLAND. LONDON, May 28. A Plymouth migration oflicer has caused a sensation in England and America by banning the landing of Charles Edward Russell, the noted American writer, and a former chief of the United States Information Department in London. He was a strong partisan of the Allies during the war. Mr Russell’s exclusion followed the Irish' Free State’s decision not to permit him to disembark in Ireland, where his wife landed on Wednesday. The authorities have advised Russell to continue the journey to Cherbourg and return to Southampton, thus allowing time for consideration of the problem.
