PRESIDENT’S REMARKS. Tho annual report (already published in the “Standard”) and tho balancesheet wore read and adopted. In speaking to tho report, Mr Cousins stated that he thought tho work of the association had been explicitly placed before the delegates. The management committee in the past year had had an uphill fight; it behoved those in office this year to put their best foot forward and stimulate interest in the game, to encourage that essential team spirit, and co-operation between tho clubs, nnd to foster the game in tho schools, a lack of which in the past had been a drawback to hockey in the Manawatu. “To thoso coming in I would say ‘Let bygones be bygones,’” stated the speaker; “let there bo harmony and let all havo tho best interests of the game at heart.” The ladies and the men wero to lie complimented on the representative games played, particularly the ladies on winning the Nopera Cup—he hoped they would win it again this season—and tho men for their showing in tho match with the Australians. This year there would be a visit from tho Indian Army team and the Manawatu would put a strong eleven in the field to oppose them. As far as finance was concerned, the association had been through a very strenuous year, but it had come out with a little more credit than it had when it started last season.
In briefly remarking on the balancesheet, Mr Aitchison stated that, though there had been a loss on the Australian match, that overseas team’s visit, he thought, had done good in creating added interest in the sport.
