TRAGIC FIRE.
BOARDERS TRAPPED IN FLAMES
SYDNEY, Ajpril 3. A coffee palace at Walcha caught fire early this morning. The twelve boarders were entrapped in the flames, which speedily raged from end to end of the building. After a desperate struggle all except three escaped. H. C'allan, J. Hall and A. Waterson were unable to reach an exit and were burned to death. Mrs Shallaher and Michael Solomons both jumped from windows and were seriously injured. The building, which was constructed of wood, was demolished. The cause of the outbreak is not known. , It is surmised that tho victims became confused in the smoko and were unable to find an exit, as one of them occupied a room on the ground floor and only had to step through a window to safety.—Press Association. JUMP FROM WINDOWS. NUMBER SERIOUSLY INJURED. SYDNEY, April 4. Later details show that there were 12 lodgers in the building at the time of the outbreak. Several jumped from the windows, and a number were seriously injured: It is surmised that the victims became confused in the smoke and were unable to find an exit.
